I got married last May and when planning for the wedding I had a stroke of genius...make a quilt that people will sign instead of having a silly guest book. My inspiration came from some of the siggy quilts that I had seen on the internet and I will forever treasure our wedding quilt and the smile it brings a smile to my face every time I see it.
I made a sign and embroidered a pen cup asking people to please sign our quilt. My feelings are that if you are going to go handmade then go all out. The embroidered pen cup may have been over-kill but I love it!!
It turns out that other people loved the idea as much as I did and I ended up making 2 more quilts for other people's weddings...

Our wedding wishes for the happy couple.
And a very fun (and huge) blue and orange wedding...
As you can see mine is the only one without finished pictures. That's because, sadly, the top is still in a box just waiting for some quilting. Why is that I always put off the projects that are for myself?!
These are just beautiful!!! I cannot imagine how much work it took. What a treasured heirloom you are giving your friends.

These are amazing, Holly! Your work is so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea!! Love the blue and orange.
ReplyDeleteThey are beautiful, and you are so freakin' talented! I can't wait to get the hallway painted so I can hang my pretty black and red one up for all to see.
ReplyDeleteI'll treasure it always!!
My stepson is getting married this summer and I had the same idea (inspired by the siggy quilts). Did you wait until after the signing to quilt the quilt?
ReplyDeleteCamille...yes, I quilted it after all the signatures. I recommend piecing the top before signing though so you can make sure no one signs in the seam allowances. Plus the whole top looks much prettier than just a pile of squares. When quilting I used a very fine white thread so you can quilt right over the signatures and it doesn't distract from them at all.
ReplyDeleteI am getting married in 4 months and I would love to do this! Do you personally make them for people by chance?
ReplyDeleteStephanie -- Yes I do. Send me an email and we can discuss it there...hollycastle77 {at} hotmail {dot} com
